The so called LOVE Park, acctually John F. Kennedy Plaza was a well known skatespot in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The park was build in the 1960s. Skateboarding startet there in the late 1980s when the first skateboarders discovered that the park’s design was perfect for skateboarding. Everything was fine till 2002, when the City enforced a total skateboarding ban and renovated the park. Local skateboarders came up with both, plans and money to make skateboarding in LOVE park legal again, but as of today skateboarding still remains illegal at LOVE park. More detailed information about the controversity can be found on ushistory.org.
Trivia
A parody of LOVE Park was feature the video game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. In the game there’s a level called “Philadelphia, PA” , but instead of the famous statue saying “LOVE” there’s another one saying “THPS” – the game’s initials.
